EnEarth highlights the strategic role of Prinos CO₂ at the Carbon Capture Global Summit 2026

EnEarth participated in the Carbon Capture Global Summit 2026, held at the QEII Centre in London, joining industry leaders and experts to discuss the role of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in accelerating industrial decarbonisation and supporting the transition towards a low-carbon economy.

During the Summit, Nikolas Rigas, Head of Carbon Storage at EnEarth, highlighted the strategic importance of Prinos CO₂, the first and only licensed CO₂ storage site in Southern Europe and the wider Mediterranean region. The project is set to provide essential infrastructure for the development of a regional CCS value chain and contribute to the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of energy-intensive industries.

For hard-to-abate sectors such as cement, refining, steel and chemicals, CCS represents an important pathway for achieving substantial emissions reductions while maintaining industrial activity, competitiveness, and employment. Prinos CO₂ is being developed to provide a safe and permanent storage solution for captured carbon dioxide, enabling industrial emitters to significantly reduce their environmental footprint while continuing to create economic value.

Addressing the wider climate challenge, Nikolas emphasised the need for practical and scalable decarbonisation solutions that can support industry today. Prinos also demonstrates the potential to leverage existing reservoir expertise and infrastructure in support of the transition towards a lower-carbon economy.

The development of CCS infrastructure is particularly important for creating the complete value chain required to connect industrial emitters with permanent geological storage. By establishing such infrastructure in Greece, Prinos CO₂ has the potential to serve not only domestic industry but also contribute to the emergence of a broader regional CO₂ transportation and storage ecosystem.

With Prinos CO₂ at the heart of this developing value chain, EnEarth aims to support the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate industries, contribute to Europe’s net-zero objectives and strengthen Southeast Europe’s role in the evolving European CCS landscape.
