EnEarth Supports Democritus Racing Team in the Drive Toward a Lower-Carbon Future

The Energean Group once again stood by the Democritus Racing Team (DRT), the Formula Student team of the Democritus University of Thrace, as EnEarth — the Group’s subsidiary focused on reducing carbon emissions — supported the creation of the team’s electric single-seater vehicle for 2026. This will be the fifth vehicle developed by the student team, which consists of more than 40 members.

The new single-seater, ELPIDA EVO, was presented by Mr. Vasilis Apostoleros, the team leader for 2025–2026, along with the heads of the sub-teams and the professors who support the effort, on Saturday, May 30, during a celebratory event at the Old Town Hall of Xanthi. EnEarth was represented at the event by Mr. Sotiris Chiotakis, Head of Corporate Affairs and Corporate Communications for Energean in Greece, the Balkans, and Southern Europe. He thanked the team for giving EnEarth the opportunity to be part of this initiative. He also emphasized that DRT and EnEarth share the same vision: a world with a smaller carbon footprint — a goal to which the Democritus University team contributes through the development of expertise in electric motors, while EnEarth contributes through its flagship carbon dioxide storage project in Prinos.

It is worth noting that DRT, now with a decade of experience, has already participated in more than 15 competitions. Last year, the team ranked among the top ten in the international “FS Alpe Adria” competition out of 27 participants and was recognized as the best Greek entry in the electric vehicle category. Additionally, DRT took part in the newly established Greek competition “Formula IHU,” where it secured 1st place overall.

The support of the Democritus Racing Team is part of Energean Group’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, which focuses on advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals — specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
