Head of Carbon Storage at Energean & specialist decarbonisation subsidiary EnEarth, Nikolas Rigas, spoke recently at the Carbon Capture Europe Summit 2025 held in Amsterdam.
He explained that EnEarth and our Prinos CO2 project in Northern Greece developed swiftly & successfully because we identified a gap in the market. The North Sea was and remains somewhat saturated, whereas there is massive demand for CCUS in Southern Europe and the Greater Mediterranean.
In addition, Nikolas focused on the need for positive policy and regulatory support. The vital needs now are speed of thought and action. The entire value chain needs a simple regulatory framework; don’t try and overcomplicate it and get it done as fast as possible.
Policy & regulatory stakeholder should provide the certainty that investors require to deploy capital that will underwrite thousands of jobs through decarbonising regional heavy industry.
