A Milestone of Pride and Commitment

A Milestone of Pride and Commitment

It was great to participate in the Signing Ceremony, held in the context of the 5th ICM Forum (December 8-9, Athens), about getting funded by the Connecting Europe Facility for our flagship CO2 storage project in Prinos!

This signing marks a moment of great pride and commitment. This project is not only a significant step forward in tackling climate change, but also a symbol of how innovation and sustainability can drive economic development and environmental protection hand in hand.

Mechthild Wörsdörfer, Deputy Director-General at DG ENER, European Commission, emphasised the importance of developing this project in the region between Kavala and Thassos, an area she has visited many times. Alongside its rich tourism, this region has also been a site of oil production for many years, proving that energy development and natural beauty can coexist and thrive. Nikolas Rigas, EnEarth's Head of Carbon Storage, highlighted an example of this harmonious coexistence: a recent feature in a major airline's magazine, titled “Discover Kavala,” showcased the beauty of the area with a multi-page spread. “This is proof that our country can successfully combine tradition, culture, tourism, and industrial development. We often hear that things don’t happen in Greece, but the Prinos CO2 Storage project is just the third of its kind in Europe to be environmentally licensed”, Nikolas pointed out.
