A highly engaging Roundtable Discussion was organized by the European Commission Representation in Greece and the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE) in Athens.
Dr. Katerina Sardi, Energean’s Managing Director and Country Manager in Greece, participated in a panel focused on "Decarbonisation and Affordable Energy Costs," alongside Johannes Luebking, Director of SG REFORM at the European Commission, and other distinguished guests. The panel was moderated by Nikos Vettas, General Director of IOBE and Professor at Athens University of Economics and Business.
Katerina provided an update on Energean’s operations, as well as the EnEarth's Prinos CO2 Storage Project. She emphasized that the Prinos CO2 project aligns with and contributes to many of the EU’s Competitive Compass pillars, particularly decarbonisation, circular and resilient economies, innovation, skills, and the completion and expansion of the single market.
Regarding the latter, Katerina explained that all components of the CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) chain should adopt best practices from the energy sector as a model for this emerging market.
Katerina also highlighted key risks for CCS projects, including a lack of clarity, simplicity, and stability in efforts to ease business operations. Overregulation is another concern, which could cause significant delays. Additionally, she stressed the need for risk-mitigating measures to help secure the necessary capital.
