Around 250 professionals from independent and state owned companies, government authorities, service providers, and investors from the energy sector gathered in Athens from May 7 to 9 for the 62nd Continental Europe Energy Council, hosted by HelleniQ Upstream.
There, Katerina Sardi, Country Manager and CEO of EnEarth in Greece, had the opportunity to speak about the flagship CO₂ storage project in Prinos, describing the operational logic of the facilities as similar to that of a small LNG terminal. She highlighted that this is the first and only project in Southern Europe to have received both environmental approval and a storage permit. She also noted that this major investment—expected to exceed 1 billion euros—is progressing according to plan, with full operation targeted for 2030.
Prinos CO₂ will play a decisive role in efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change, as at full scale it will store emissions equal to approximately 25% to 30% of the total annual emissions of Greece’s domestic heavy industry.
As part of the Energean group, which has already reduced by 89% its Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon intensity, EnEarth plays with the Prinos CO2 its decisive role towards Net Zero.
