We had the pleasure and honor of welcoming to Energean’s facilities in Kavala — which will be used together with the new infrastructure for the development of Prinos CO₂ — Member of the European Parliament Mr. Dimitris Tsiodras, who serves on the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) as well as the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) of the European Parliament. The visit was intended to provide information on the strategic investments being carried out in Greece in the fields of energy and decarbonization.
The Greek MEP was received and briefed by Energean Group’s HSE Director and Prinos Asset Manager Mr. Vasilis Tsetoglou, the Director of Drilling Operations Mr. Stathis Skarvelas, and the Director of Corporate Affairs for Greece Mr. Artemis Barbounis.
The briefing focused on EnEarth’s flagship project for CO₂ storage in Prinos, on the progress of which our executives updated Mr. Tsiodras. He referred to the importance of developing carbon capture and storage chains to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, noting that any concerns expressed about the project’s safety are unfounded, as it has been reviewed and continues to be monitored by the European Commission, which grants its approval based on very strict environmental standards.
Overall, the visit highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue between European institutions and industry, with the aim of supporting investments that promote innovation and sustainable development in Greece. One such investment — exceeding €1 billion — is Prinos CO₂, which at full scale will be able to store, in liquefied form, carbon dioxide equivalent to 25%–30% of the annual emissions of the Greek hard -to- abate industries.
