At the CO₂ Shipping, Terminals & CCS Conference Europe in Milan (September 2025), Dr. Pantelis Vogiatzis, Commercial Lead at EnEarth S.A., presented the Prinos CO₂ Storage Project as “A Model for Early-Mover Mediterranean CCS Hubs.”
Prinos stands as the first large-scale offshore CO₂ storage development in Southeast Europe, representing the first EU-recognised project of its kind in the Eastern Mediterranean and serving as the flagship initiative for the region’s decarbonisation efforts.

During his presentation, Pantelis outlined how the project is progressing towards implementation, while emphasised why Prinos is a crucial early-stage CCS initiative for the Mediterranean, offering a real pathway to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors and build momentum for regional carbon management.
The discussion also highlighted Prinos’ potential to grow into a regional hub. With 15 MoUs signed for volumes exceeding 6 MtCO₂ per year—more than double the planned injection capacity—demand for storage is secured, underlining the need for scalable infrastructure and long-term certainty.
Cross-border cooperation and regulatory alignment were presented as essential enablers for success, ensuring fair access, competitive markets, and bankability. Finally, Pantelis highlighted the significance of maritime logistics, with shipping of liquid CO₂ identified as the linchpin for connecting emitters across Southern Europe to the Prinos facility.
He concluded that Prinos is not simply a national project, but a regional enabler, laying the foundations for a resilient and interconnected Mediterranean CCS hub.
