Dr. Katerina Sardi, Managing Director & Country Manager for Energean and EnEarth in Greece participated at two prestigious conferences, the 6th OT Forum and IENE’S 29TH Energy and Growth Conference that took place in Athens in early November. Katerina focused on the latest developments related with the CCS chain.
As the Energean group is at the forefront of industrial decarbonisation. Katerina pointed out that “While CO₂ injection may appear novel to some, it builds upon our 45 years of experience in water injection for oil production. This expertise positions Energean as a leader in the deployment of carbon management solutions”. Market interest is substantial, with 15 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) already signed, covering a total of 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of CO₂. This initiative represents a key enabler for decarbonising hard-to-abate industries across the region.

She also emphasized that “a major milestone has been achieved with the issuance of the first Environmental Permit for a large-scale project in the Mediterranean. Energean is now progressing through an active procurement phase, with 17 tenders underway for the drilling rig and associated support activities”
But despite strong progress, a number of challenges remain, including:
Streamlining permitting procedures,
Removing regulatory and contractual barriers to enable long-term commitments from the industry and
Securing continued and enhanced support from the State.
“Energean remains committed to overcoming these challenges through collaboration, innovation, and disciplined execution, ensuring the delivery of sustainable value for all stakeholders” Katerina Sardi concluded.
